A couple of week’s ago, manga artist and co-creator of Yuri!!! on ICE Kubo Mitsurou drew our attention to some of her old tweets. In them, she chronicled former ice dancer and choreographer Kenji Miyamoto performing the programs he’d created so that the animators would have video to work from. Let us now join her in celebrating Kenji-sensei’s heroic efforts back in spring!
NB: I’ve put Miyamoto’s name in first name-surname order as per ISU skating protocol. All other Japanese names are in traditional word order.
Let’s film the choreography!!
We rented the skating rink overnight to film the choreography. Kenji Miyamoto-sensei told us that he’s the type who improves when someone praises him, so we’re like “That tight ass looks absolutely fantastic!” This pic shows Kenji-sensei warming up.
Yesterday, our shoot for the choreography for Yuri!!! on ICE was the longest so far, at ~8 hours. Kenji Miyamoto-sensei even had to cheer himself on, “Kenji! Come on!” I’m crying… And sketching all through the night, Tatenaka-san managed to capture Kenji-sensei’s good-looking butt.1
Once again today, we spent all night filming choreography for Yuri!!! on ICE. Thank you so very much for giving us those fantastic shots! #Kenji,Ganba
Miyamoto-sensei, our choreographer, is sooo cool that he got a GOE2 of 5 hundred million ☆ (I’m the judge)
After one week, the choreography shoot is over! Thank you for all your hard work, Kenji Miyamoto-sensei! There’s one more song to do, but most of the filming is done! Thank you so very much! Kenji-sensei is an incredibly busy person, so this is the last we’ll be seeing of him for a while. #Goodbye,Kenji
Back to the Episode Countdown!
And that, my friends, is the end of Kubo-sensei’s little chronicle. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! Apparently, some of the footage that they took from these sessions will be an extra on the BD releases…so RIP, my poor wallet!!
Also, I’ve whipped up a Yuri!!! on ICE Masterpost over at White Box Treasure. If, like me, you’re trying to while away the days and hours before the next episode lands, feel free to check it out!
Next, back to Macross Frontier!
I have been trying to find stuff about YOI’s choreographer and his work on the show. Thank you so much from translating!
